Death of a girl in road mishap sparks violent protest in Gonda

Tension prevailed in Mankapur area here after a 10-year-old girl was today killed in road mishap, sparking violent protest by villagers who indulged in brickbatting and arson.

The incident occurred this morning when the girl, Premshila, was going to school. She was hit by a bike in Bandarha village in Mankapur area, police said.

She was rushed to the hospital where she died during treatment.

Agitated over the incident, villagers placed the body on a road and started brickbatting. They also torched some shops and bikes.

Senior police officials reached the spot, police said, adding the situation "is under control but tense".
