Death rate down in Delhi by 7.1 pc

Delhi has recorded 7.1 per cent reduction in death rate with 97,185 deaths reported in 2013 as against 1,04,616 deaths in 2012 indicating an overall improvement in the health of the citizens of national capital.

The infant mortality rate (IMR) in the state also has come down from 23.94 per cent per 1,000 live births to 22.37 per cent per 1,000 live births, according to figures published in the Delhi Statistical Handbook 2012.

Also, the death rate calculated per 1,000 population has come down from 6.1 per cent in 2012-13 to 5.52 per cent in 2013-14.

However, the infant mortality has gone up from the 2008 and 2009 figures, by 18.3 per cent and 18.96 per cent respectively.
 

Birth rate per 1,000 population has gone up from 20.9 per cent to 21.07 per cent indicating betterment in the health of pregnant women.

In 2013-14, the state recorded 3,70,000 births as compared to 3,60,473 births the previous year and 3,517 stillbirths as against 3,642 stillbirths.
