: A death row convict, who is an associate of slain forest brigand Veerappan, suffered a mild heart attack in jail but was "stable" today, the Medical Officer in-charge of the prison said.

Simon, a hypertensive and diabetic, was shifted to civil hospital yesterday from Hindalga jail here, where he is lodged along with three other death row convicts in the case, when he complained of giddiness and diminishing vision, Dr Vasant Mallappa Yamakanamardi attending on him told PTI.

He was diagnosed to have suffered a mild heart attack and his condition at the medical Intensive Care Unit was stable now, the doctor said, adding that Simon will be kept under observation for three-four days before he is discharged.

The Supreme Court had last month ordered a six-week stay on the execution of the death sentence awarded to the four associates of Veerappan for killing 22 persons, by triggering a landmine explosion at Palar in Karnataka near the Tamil Nadu border in April 1993.
