Death sentence to 2, lifer to 2 others in 2005 murder case

A local court here has awarded capital punishment to a former Block Head and Samajwadi Party's district secretary and his brother, and life imprisonment to two others of his family in a 2005 murder case.

Special Judge (SC/ST Act), Shaileshwar Nath Singh passed the judgement today awarding Patanjali Bharadwaj and his brother Vashisht Bharadwaj death sentence and life imprisonment to two sons Rahul and Varun, prosecution counsel Raes Ahmed said.

One Madhoram had gone to the block office on January 8, 2005 in connection with some work when Bharadwaj, who was the then the Block Head (Pramukh) clashed with him. Madhoram later returned with his supporters, Ahmed said.
 

Bharadwaj, his brother and sons opened fire resulting in the death of Madhoram's son Amrendra Kumar and nephew Ashok Kumar following which a named FIR was filed, Ahmed said.

After hearing both the sides, the judge today pronounced the verdict, he said, adding that a total fine of Rs 66 lakhs has also been imposed on the four of which Rs 12 lakhs each would be provided to the famlies of both the deceased.
