Death toll climbs to five in boat mishap

With the recovery of two more bodies today, the death toll rose to five in the boat mishap incident in Saran district.

The boat sank in Saryu river after parts of a crane fell on it in which a few labourers were engaged in construction of a bridge yesterday.

The incident took place near pillar no-46 when parts of the crane accidentally fell on the boat, which was carrying labourers for construction of the Chapra-Ara road bridge over the river, Superintendent of Police, Saran, Satbir Singh said.

He said five bodies have been fished out and search was on for about six others.
 

Officials were camping at the spot to supervise search operation, Singh added.
