Death toll in Mumbai building collapse rises to 24

The toll in the Mumbai building collapse mounted to 24, with more deaths reported late in the evening, a civic official said.

The deceased included 19 male and five female, while 37 people had been rescued from the debris so far, said Prabhat Rahangdale, the city's chief fire officer.

The rescue operations would continue through the night, he added.

The rickety 117-year-old structure collapsed in the congested Bhendi Bazaar in south Mumbai this morning.
