Death toll reaches 340 in Telangana

The searing heatwave has claimed lives of 74 more persons in Telangana in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 340.

Nalgonda recorded the maximum number of deaths at 99, followed by Khammam 72, Karimnagar 45 and Mahabubnagar 37, a senior official of State Disaster Management Department told PTI.

Medak recorded 29 deaths, Adilabad 22, Nizamabad and Warangal 11 each followed by Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy at 7 each, the official said.

The information on heatwave deaths pertain to the period from April 15 till 5 pm today.

According to the Meteorological department, heatwave conditions prevailed today over some parts in the districts of Adilabad, Ranga Reddy, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Warangal, Khammam and Nalgonda of Telangana.
 

The highest maximum temperature of 46 degree Celsius was recorded at Khammam and Nalgonda on Tuesday.
