Debt-ridden farmer commits suicide in Maharashtra

A 36-year-old farmer committed suicide allegedly because he was unable to repay a debt, in Chandwad taluka of the district, police said today.

Namdev Sukhdev Gite, a resident of Talegaon-Rohi village, consumed poison yesterday, police said.

Gite had taken a loan from a local society, but was unable to repay it for the past three years due to prevailing drought situation, they said, adding he took the extreme step in distress.

A case has been registered in this connection, police said, adding further investigation is on.
