Haryana Congress Legislature Party leader Kiran Choudhry today termed as as "retrograde, regressive and politically motivated," the state government's decision to abolish the Ambala Municipal Corporation and form two separate councils. The decision was by political consideration that the municipal corporation was being controlled by the Congress, something the BJP-led government could not digest, she alleged in a statement here. This decision refects the "behind-times mind set" of the Manohar Lal Khattar Government, she said. In a statement, the former excise and taxation minister said civic bodies were generally upgraded, not downgraded, to provide people better civic amenities and more facilities. For the first time in the country, the status of a city has been downgraded from corporation to a council which is a great setback for Ambala and its residents, she said.
The Haryana government on Saturday decided to abolish Ambala municipal corporation (MC) and form separate municipal councils for Ambala City and Ambala Sadar.
