Punjab Finance Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa today said he has decided to contest assembly elections from Lehra instead of Sunam assembly constituency this time.

"My decision to contest elections from Lehra was not because of the negative feedback. I decided to contest from Lehra constituency four years ago. My decision to shift from Sunam to Lehra constituency was conveyed to the SAD leadership a long time back," he told reporters at the SGPC-run Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University here.

The SAD-BJP alliance will win the Lehra constituency seat in the Punjab Assembly polls with a thumping majority, he claimed.

On Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh's meeting with President Pranab Mukherjee on the Sutlej-Yamuna-Link (SYL) canal issue, he said, "SAD had sought an appointment with the President and a party delegation would meet him whenever he gives time."

Replying to questions on transfer of the denotified SYL canal land to its "original owners", the Minister said it will be owners' task to get possession of their land.

He said the ruling SAD-BJP government has adopted proper procedures and returned the land acquired for the SYL canal project. It has also changed the mutation of land back in the name of the "original land owners".
