A 53-year-old scientist of Electronic Regional Test Laboratory (ERTL) was found dead today at his residence in Indirapuram area here.

The body of Mahaveer Singh was highly decomposed and police said that he could have died about eight to ten days ago.

Singh had taken a leave of ten days from ERTL (Okhla), which is attached with Department of Electronic and Information Technology (DEIT). DEIT is a unit of Ministry of Communication and Information Technology.

However, later, Singh got his leave extended for ten more days on medical grounds.

Singh lived alone in a flat of Shipra Suncity residential complex. He had married 25 years ago, but after one year he reportedly got divorced from his wife.

On August 18, Singh's nephew had called him on his phone, but call went unattended.

Police said that the matter came to light this evening when Singh's neighbours observed smell emanating from his flat.

"There was no injury mark on the scientist's body. We are yet to establish the reason behind his death. The reason would be known once his postmortem report comes," a police officer said.

"Seeing the body's condition, he might have died seven to eight days ago," said Ranvijay Singh, Circle Officer, Ghaziabad.
