Decomposed carcass of elephant found in Odisha

Forest personnel spotted the decomposed carcass of an elephant in the dense forests inside the Similipal sanctury area in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district today, official sources said.

Forest personnel led by divisional forest officer (DFO), Baripada, Sanjay Swain rushed to the spot in the Sanachandri forests under Pithabata range of Baripada forest division and stumbled upon the carcass.

As the carcass is beyond recognition, the gender of the jumbo, believed to be middle-aged, as to whether it was a tusker or female elephant was yet to be established, the DFO said.
