Deepa Mehta, Aparna Sen's films to screen at Womanhood Fest

Movies of filmmakers like Deepa Mehta, Aparna Sen, Mira Nair and Raj Kapoor will be screened at 'Womanhood- The battle to be thyself' International Film and Arts Festival.

The event, organised by Osianama, will be 365 days film festival with screening of iconic movies for the first two months, starting from February 13 to April 16.

Films made by directors such as Agnes Varda, Sam Mendes, Chantal Akerman, Ingmar Bergman, Jane Campion, Vera Chytilova, Larisa Sheptiko, Lynne Ramsay among others will be showcased.

"Sharing ideas about womanhood is complex... We hope that after sharing and participating with us over the next two months there will be a transformation in our understanding and empathy with the subject," Neville Tuli, Chairman, Osian's Group said in a statement.
 

The event will open with Cyrus Nowrasteh's "The Stoning of Sorayah" followed by "Girlhood", "Sengaal" and "Persona" by Ingmar Begman. A cinematic heritage exhibition on the history of women in Indian cinema will be held.

Filmmaker Farah Khan is also scheduled to present a master class on choreography in Hindi cinema at the festival.

The Festival is curated along eight stages of a woman's life: Girlhood, coming-of-age, mirror-mirror, male gaze and beauty, life interrupted, marriage and motherhood, pursuit of individuality and seeking spirituality.
