Deepavali celebrated with jubilation in Puducherry

People across Puducherry today celebrated Deepavali with traditional enthusiasm and fervour.

Clad in new dress, people exchanged greetings with their brethern and offered worship at various temples, including the famous shrine of Manakaula Vinayakar early in the morning.

An array of crackers were set off, by youths and children, adding to the sparkle of the festival.

Lt Governor Kiran Bedi, Chief Minister V Narayanasamy and Speaker V Vaithilingam and member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) R Radhakrishnan were among those who greeted the people on the occasion of the festival of lights.

Cloth merchants and ready-made garment shop owners heaved a sigh of relief as the Union Territory did not witness rainfall, which would normally be the scenario days ahead of the festival.
