Deepika eyes berth as trials for Asian Games, WC started

All eyes are on ace archer Deepika Kumari, who is struggling for form, as the two-phase selection trial for the Asian Games and World Cup Stage IV has begun here today.

The 20-year-old has failed to make the cut to the India team for the World Cup Stage I and III earlier this year that has kept the three-time World Cup Final silver medallist out of race for a fourth medal on trot.

Having slipped to No. 16 in the world rankings, the former world No. 1 will look to make amends as total of 32 archers in recurve and compound sections of boys and girls categories will vie for the ultimate 16 places.
 

Prominent among others include last Asian Games silver medalist Tarundeep Rai who is also struggling to get make the India cut.

The first phase will screen six in each categories, while the second phase from July 10-13 will prune to four each.

The World Cup Stage IV will be held in Wroclaw from August 4-10, while the Asian Games will be held from September 19-October 4.
