Deer meat seized in Odisha, poacher held

Forest officials today seized 25 kg of venison and arrested a poacher from Shailendranagar village near Bhitarkanika Wildlife Sanctuary in Odisha's Kendrapara district.

Acting on a tip off, the 45-year-old a member of a local poaching racket was arrested with the raw meat and the animal's hide besides nylon nets used for ensnaring wild animals, forest officials said.

He was booked under various sections of Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.

Some other members of the racket have evaded arrest, but they have been identified and search is on to arrest them, the officials said.
