The sub-committee of Congress-led ruling UDF that looked into the reasons for the defeat of UDF candidate and JD(U) state president M P Veerendrakumar in Palakkad in the Lok Sabha polls, today recommended action against certain local leaders responsible for the defeat.

Talking to reporters after the meeting, Front Convener P P Thangachan said the report with recommendations of the Committee would be submitted to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy who is also the UDF Chairman.

"Then the report will be finalised," he said, adding that the committee has not named any specific persons for the defeat.

The UDF's coordination committee will decide whether the report should be made public or not, he said.

However, JD(U) representative in the committee wanted the names C Balagopal, Palakkad DCC Secretary, C Chandran, KPCC Secretary, who was the General secretary of the poll campaign committee and C V Balachandaram, Palakkad Congress Committee President to be included in the report for their lapses in the poll preparations, UDF sources said.

JD(U) also wanted action against the Congress leaders who worked against the UDF candidate.

The report is significant in the wake of recent demand by Veerendrakumar to make public the report. He had also stated that party was not getting due consideration from the UDF and had sore experiences.
