The CPI-M today called for defeat of the "communal BJP and corrupt Congress" in the Assam Assembly election beginning on April 4.
In its election manifesto released today by party state unit committee secretary, Deben Bhattacharyya, the party, which is a part of the United Left comprising six left parties, said while it was an imperative to defeat the 'communal' BJP, defeating the 'corrupt' Congress was also 'essential'.
"While we all know the worse danger for the harmonious Assamese society if the communal BJP comes to power, it is also essential to defeat the corrupt Congress for its enormous level of irregularities in the state," Bhattacharyya said.
