The prestigious Defence Service Staff College (DSSC) at nearby Wellington has received two ISO certifications.

It received the ISO 9001:2008 certification in recognition of the highest professional standards in quality attained by it and ISO 14001:2004 for achieving ecologically sustainable practices in the Wellington campus, college Commandant Lt. Gen. S M Gadeock said in a statement.

DSSC provides staff training to officers of Army, Navy and Air Force, along with officers of the civil services and those of the Commonwealth and friendly foreign countries.

It had always maintained exemplary standards in training blended with the very best traditions of the Armed Forces and ISO 9001 was the only international certification in conformity with quality standards recognised globally, he said.

This was a proud moment for the DSSC to be one of the few organisations in the country to be certified for both ISO 9001 as well as ISO 14001, he said.

DSSC has always been at the forefront of the global movement towards adopting innovative eco-friendly measures, he said adding in the recent years it had instituted practices for achieving mitigation of carbon footprint in the hilly Nilgiris District, through a system of effective environmental management.

Since its inception, DSSC has been a centre of excellence for military studies in the world and its alumni list includes several iconic leaders from the defence and civil services, from the country and all over the world, Gadeock said.
