Defence Secretary R K Mathur today took stock of security and strategic aspects related to the Andaman and Nicobar Command, officials said.
On a two-day visit to the islands, Mathur was welcomed by Commander-in-Chief of Andaman & Nicobar Command Vice Admiral Pradeep K Chatterjee.
The officials said a detailed briefing was given to the secretary, covering important security and strategic aspects concerning the islands.

On his maiden visit to the archipelago, the Defence Secretary laid emphasis on the importance of these islands in the strategic matrix of the nation.
He assured that all possible help would be extended in terms of men and material to enhance infrastructure and combat aspects of the Command.
Mathur also highlighted the importance of integrated commands and said that integrated defence forces were the future of any nation.
Scheduled to depart for New Delhi tomorrow, the Defence Secretary also called on Lieutenant Governor Lt Gen (Retd) A K Singh at Raj Niwas.
