Defence studies syllabus to be upgraded in universities

With inputs from DRDO, the UGC has decided to support the upgrading of the existing syllabus of defence and strategic studies in ten universities of the country, Rajya Sabha was informed today.

"The UGC has decided to support the upgrading of the departments of defence and strategic studies in 10 universities in the country with necessary inputs from DRDO," Minister of State for Human Resources Development Shashi Tharoor said in written reply to a query.

He said in order to amend or modify the existing syllabus, the UGC has formed an expert committee to review the existing syllabus of Defence and Strategic studies at undergraduate, postgraduate and M Phil-levels.
 

The Defence Institute of Advanced Technology in Pune is already conducting M Tech and Ph D programmes in streams of strategic importance for participants from DRDO, tri-services and other organisations, he said.

"The Indian National Defence University was also recently established with a view to provide qualified manpower required by domestic defence industry," Tharoor said.
