Defying prohibitory orders women demonstrate before DyCM's

Defying prohibitory orders a large number of women today demonstrated before the residence of Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar and other ministers here raising slogans to save Manipur's territorial integrity.

Raising slogans to save Manipur's territorial integrity and opposing any move to extend Article 371 (A) in the multi-ethnic state, the women demonstrated also before the residence of Works Minister Bishwajit and Forest Minister T Shyamkumar.

Women leader RK Ramani told reporters that they had come to urge the Deputy CM and other ministers to convene an emergency assembly session to discuss the issue rising out of the Framework Agreement between the Centre and NSCN (IM) as well as to pressurise the MPs of the state to raise the issue on the floor of the Parliament.

 

Prohibitory order under section 144 of Crpc was in force in Imphal West district.

On Aug 3 volunteers of United Committee Manipur (UCM), All Manipur United Club Organization (AMUCO) and Committee of Civil Societies Kangleipak (CCSK) had demonstrated before the residence of residence of MPs - Bhabananda and T Meinya - demanding that they raise of issue of protection the territorial integrity of Manipur on the floor of the Parliament.

Article 371(A) of the Constitution provides special provision with respect to the State of Nagaland.
