The lone woman minister in the Oommen Chandy government, P K Jayalakshmi, is at the centre of a controversy after discrepancies emerged in the information related to her educational qualifications provided in her poll affidavits.
As per the affidavit submitted by Jayalakshmi, who is contesting from Manthavady constituency in the May 16 assembly polls, her educational qualifications is 'plus two'.
However, the minister, who held the Tribal welfare and youth affairs portfolios in the Chandy government, had in the affidavit submitted during the 2011 elections claimed she was 'a BA degree holder from Kannur University in 2004, diploma in Computer Applications, Society for Technology Development, 2008 July'.
The new affidavit claims that Jayalakshmi appeared for the BA course examinations and studied at the Government College, Mananthavady during the 2001-04 period, but "failed".
The Election Commission, early this month had accepted a private petition seeking action against the minister for allegedly furnishing 'false information in the affidavit,' filed along with the nomination paper for the last Assembly elections.
Wayanad District Collector Keshavendra Kumar told PTI that the Mananthavady Returning Officer had carried out an enquiry into the complaint, prepared a report and submitted it to him.
The report would be handed over to Election Commission tomorrow or the day after for their consideration, he said.
However, he did not divulge any further details about the content of the report.
