The Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) in collaboration with NIXI has undertook a review meeting on world summit on the information society (WSIS).
The meeting under internet governance was held on September 18 to discuss the priorities and concerns of Indian stakeholders in relation to the ongoing overall review by the UN general assembly of the implementation of the outcomes of the WSIS.
According to an official statement, India wants democratisation and broad-basing of the global affairs of telecommunications and internet governance.

India's point is that ITU should take leadership and partner with UN and other international/regional organisations in executing the Information and Communication Technology projects and programs in developing countries.
India also wants the ITU to be the supervisory authority of space assets, the statement added.
Recently, India has declared its commitment towards multi-stakeholder approach to Internet governance.
In pursuance of the declaration, a series of multi stakeholder discussions involving business, civil society, government, academia and technical community have taken place.
The entire review process will be concluded by a high-level meeting of the UN general Assembly on December 15-16, 2015 in New York.
Currently, the United Nations is facilitating a preparatory process for the WSIS review in consultation with member states and relevant stakeholders.
