The Delhi Assembly today felicitated the parents of Olympic bronze medalist Sakshi Malik with several MLAs, including Opposition leader Vijender Gupta, congratulating them for their daughter's performance in the event.
Chandni Chowk MLA Alka Lamba moved a motion of thanks and congratulated Malik's parents and coach, who came to the Assembly, for inspiring every Indian.
Lamba said that in a country where girls are killed in the wombs, Sashi's achievement will inspire other women.
Delhi Labour Minister Gopal Rai also congratulated Sakshi's parents and her coach and said there is a need to identify people who are talented.
Gupta said Sakshi has brought honour to the country by winning medal in Rio Olympics.
Last week, the AAP government had offered promotion to Sakhi's father who works as a conductor in Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC).
