A 45-year-old event manager from Delhi was burnt to death after his car caught fire on the Loni Bhopura Road in Sahibabad here, police said Friday.

Naveen Kumar Das, a native of Indira Puri in Delhi, had allegedly paid the token amount for buying a plot of land in Delhi's Chhattarpur after which the incident took place Thursday, they said, as the deceased's brother alleged a "foul play".

Some witnesses informed the police about the incident on 'Dial 100'. According to the eyewitnesses, the car caught fire and the person driving it could not come out.

The deceased was identified by his belongings, police said.

S P (City) Shlok Kumar said a fire tender reached the spot but by that time the car and its owner had been charred by then.

The body was sent for postmortem and DNA test will also be conducted, he said.

Police informed his family members after which Manoj Kumar Das, the deceased's brother, reached Sahibabad. According to him, Naveen left his house on Thursday for Chattarpur for buying a plot of land.

"Naveen told our sister over the phone regarding finalising a deal for a plot of land and that he paid a token money. Since then, there was no response to calls to his phone," Manoj alleged, suspecting a foul play.

An FIR was lodged against "unknown assailants" under IPC section 302 (murder), police said.

Teams of forensic and automobile experts were also pressed into service to know the cause of fire, the SP added.
