The mayors of three BJP ruled municipal corporations have been asked by the party's Delhi unit president Manoj Tiwari to ensure that no sealing or demolition action is taken without written orders.

The municipal staff need to make sure that a proper show cause notice is served in advance to people, as mandatory under Delhi Municipal Act, 1957, before taking any penal, said a Delhi BJP statement.

"Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari has directed the mayors of all three municipal corporations to ensure that the municipal staff do not carry out any sealing or demolition without written orders," it said.

Tiwari said in an all-party meeting called by the Delhi chief minister it was "cross confirmed" by the members of the Supreme Court-appointed monitoring committee on sealing that they do not issue "verbal" orders, it said.

"These verbal orders are not lawful. The mayors should hold meetings with officials of civic bodies to make it clear that disciplinary action will be taken against field staff carrying out any penal action citing verbal orders," the statement added.
