Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel today called on Nitin Gadkari, who was appointed as in-charge of party affairs in the city, where assembly elections are slated for November.

Goel, accompanied by several party leaders of the Delhi unit, visited Gadkari's residence here and greeted him with bouquet of flowers.

Gadkari was appointed in-charge of party affairs in Delhi two days ago.

The city BJP has already started a campaign to challenge the Sheila Dikshit government which has been in power for over 14 years.

Gadkari thanked Goel and other leaders and said he will do his best to ensure victory of the party in the assembly polls.

Goel said Gadkari's appointment as in-charge of the party will enthuse the grass root workers.

As in-charge of the party, Gadkari will face the challenge of bridging differences among senior leaders in the city BJP.

A number of senior leaders, including V K Malhotra, Harsh Vardhan and Vijendra Gupta have conveyed their unhappiness over Goel's style of functioning.

Sources said a number of senior leaders have complained to top BJP leadership that Goel was trying to "sideline" them.

A section of Delhi BJP has also been pressing for declaring a chief ministerial candidate of the party to take on Dikshit.
