"The entire Connaught Place has been dug up. Till today, work amounting to crores of rupees are pending, some of which have lost their utility," Delhi BJP president Vijender Gupta said demanding a CBI inquiry.

He alleged trade in the area has declined by 80 per cent.

The construction of eight subways in the outer circle is going on at a "snail's" pace and this has led to a "chaotic" situation in the inner and outer circle roads of Connaught Place area," he claimed.

Alleging that Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit was trying to cover up the entire issue instead of punishing those responsible for alleged irregularities, he said "the repair, decoration, beautification, among other works, completed during CWG is breaking up. The reason for delay in work is sub-standard quality of work."

"Initially, the work was to be completed by October 2010. Then, four extensions were allowed. Now, it has been extended till December 2012 and experts say the work may not be over by year-end," Gupta alleged.
