Delhi budget provides for welfare of media personnel

The Delhi budget for 2012-13 presented today proposes Rs five crore towards the welfare of media personnel in the national capital.

In her budget speech, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said governments have tried to improve the working conditions of journalists nationally.

"A vibrant media is an important component of our system...At the state level, I propose to set aside Rs five crore towards welfare of journalists," she said.

She also enhanced the annual grant from Rs one crore Rs two crore for Delhi Haj Committee for facilitating the Haj pilgrimage.

For women in distress, the budget also enhanced the financial assistance from Rs 1000 to Rs 1,500 per month.
