A meeting of the Delhi Cabinet presided over by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit cleared the draft of Delhi Sikh Gurudwaras (Amendment) Bill, 2012.

The Bill will now be sent to the Union Home Ministry for approval following which it will be tabled in the Delhi Assembly.

The Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee was constituted under Section 3 of Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Act, 1971 with an aim to oversee functioning of the gurudwaras across the city.

In the amendment bill, the government seeks to extend tenure of the president of the Committee to four years instead of current two years besides proposing to make certain other changes in the organisation.

The Committee consists of 46 elected members from single member wards and nine co-opted members.
