Delhi CEO asks govt depts to help ensure free and fair polls

With Lok Sabha polls round the corner, Delhi's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) today directed various government departments to ensure proper implementation of the model code of conduct after announcement of poll dates, and also chalk out plan to deal with various poll related issues.

CEO Vijay Dev today took a meeting of senior officers of different departments of Delhi government and its local bodies and asked them to ensure free and fair environment for conducting General elections.

A number of points, including general preparedness for the polls, enforcement of Model Code of Conduct, action plan for prevention of defacement of public property and availability of Basic Minimum Facilities (BMF) at polling stations were discussed in the meeting.
 

"The announcement of poll dates will be done by the Election Commission very soon. With this the Model Code of Conduct will come into force with immediate effect. Officers have been asked to cooperate in this massive national task wholeheartedly," Dev said.

He asked officials to ensure that no advertisements, hoardings, electronic billboards are put at the cost of government's exchequer.

"Those existing will be arranged to be removed immediately. The Directorate of Information and Publicity, the land-owning agency and the departments with whose funds advertisements are issued are responsible and will take immediate action in this regard," he added.

He directed the government officials to ensure that there is no reference to former chief minister and other ministers in any of the department websites, photos etc.
