Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today asked the Delhi Technological University (DTU) to submit within one month a blueprint on achieving top rank in the field of research and nurturing about 50 per cent students as entrepreneurs.

Addressing a gathering after inauguration of the DTU's East Delhi Campus in Vivek Vihar Phase II here, the chief minister said he wanted the university to rank among the top 10 technological institutes in the world.

He said that education was the backbone of a country's success and asked students to become job creators when they complete their course and contribute towards the society and nation-building

"I want to focus on three objectives for the university. I request students to become job creators so that they can provide employment to others. Thereafter, there will be a decline in the unemployment in the country," Kejriwal said.

He said the second point was with regard to production of best research.

"Research should be to benefit common people and students. Through research, university can find exact demands of industrialists and the government will provide all resources to it. I want the DTU to become number one in the field of research," the chief minister said.

He said the AAP government was investing in education so that students could be made "smart citizens" who got good jobs and generated employment for others.

"I also want the university to rank among top 10 technological universities in the world. This government is focusing on education. When the AAP government was formed (in February), state-run schools were in a bad state. Manish Sisodia (education minister) transformed the government's schools," he said.

Around 300 students have got admission in the East Delhi Campus as the first batch. The campus will offer courses in business and other programmes. Classes for new students will start from Monday.

Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, Water Minister Rajender Pal Gautam were also present at the event.
