In view of Chhat Puja festival, Delhi Congress today urged Lt Governor Najeeb Jung to ensure adequate arrangements at Yamuna River's ghats in the national capital.

In a letter to Jung, DPCC chief Arvinder Singh said that taking into consideration the interest of lakhs of Poorvanchalis residing in Delhi, fool-proof arrangements should be made at the various Yamuna river ghats and other areas for the conduct of the Chhat pujas.

" Arrangements should be made regarding sanitation and barricading of the ghats, lighting of the ghats, supply of drinking water, security and pitching of tents at the ghats for the smooth conduct of the pujas by lakhs of Poorvanchalis," Singh said.

Earlier in the day, Singh along with CLP leader Haroon Yusuf and former MP Mahabal Mishra today held a meeting with prominent persons of the Poorvanchal community to discuss the preparations for Chhat Puja.

"Every year, Delhi Government makes all the necessary arrangements for the smooth conduct of this festival by lakhs of Poorvanchalis, and this year also such arrangements should be made well ahead of the Chhat pujas to avoid any last-minute glitch," Singh said.

The DPCC chief has also appealed to Jung to request the Haryana Government to release more water to the Yamuna river during the Chhat Puja days from October 27 to 29.
