The Delhi Congress today said it will hold a protest over the alleged "atrocities" on Dalits and the BJP-led central government's "failure" to properly put up its case before the Supreme Court, leading to the "dilution" of the provisions of the SC/ST atrocities act.

Senior leaders of the Delhi Congress, including former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, today discussed various issues such as atrocities against Dalits and the recent hike of fixed charges of electricity in Delhi, during a meeting at the party office here.

The demonstration will register party's protest against "rising atrocities" against Dalits and the "failure" of the BJP-led Central government in properly putting up its case before the Supreme Court, "diluting" the provision of arrest under the SC/ST Act, said Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken.

On the issue of hike of fixed charges of electricity, he alleged that the hike will hit the poor consumers hard as the move was intended to benefit the power companies.

The "massive" increase in the fixed charges in the Delhi power tariff will put an additional burden of Rs 1,510 crore on the power consumers, he claimed.
