In the upcoming polls to three municipal corporations, Congress workers and not the leaders will decide the party candidates for each ward.

Emphasising the need to strengthen the party as per the wish of the people, Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken today said the party will field candidates in the municipal elections based on the feedback of the booth-level workers.

For the MCD polls, scheduled in April, it will be Congress workers and not the leaders who will decide the candidates for each ward, he said, addressing a series of party's district unit convention.

"Party has strong candidates to contest the MCD elections, but the final choice of the candidates would be made only after taking the views of the Congress workers."

The prospective aspirants of Congress would have to send the names, addresses and phone numbers of five booth-level workers, which will be cross-checked by the control room set up at the Delhi Congress office.

"The candidates will finally be selected only on after receiving a feedback from the workers," Maken said.

"In the changed election scenario, it is essential to strengthen the Congress party in the manner in which people want it to be," he said.

Addressing the party workers at district conventions in Najafgarh, Tilak Nagar, New Delhi and Mehrauli, Maken asserted that people want Congress back after experiencing "misrule" of BJP at MCDs for a decade and two years of AAP government in Delhi.

"Tremendous response to the district conventions from the people is a clear indication that the people want the Congress back in power," he said, claiming the party can ensure the all-round development of Delhi.
