The proposed Delhi-Dasna-Meerut expressway will be completed by 2017, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said here today.

The construction work of the project worth Rs 10 crore will begin in the next two months, he said.

Once operational, the expressway will prove to be a boon for the locals and will also be beneficial to the farmers, Gadkari said, addressing a Kisan Maha Panchayat at Saidpur village under Modinagar Tehsil.

Describing the farmers as the back-bone of the country, he said that the state and the country can progress only when the farmers are happy.

Gadkari said the Narendra Modi goverment is pro-farmer and is fully committed to their well being.

He alleged that due to the faulty policies of previous governments at the Centre, farmers were committing suicide in the country.
