Aam Aadmi Party and Opposition indulged in a blame game today over the spread of vector-borne diseases in the national capital with the ruling party attacking BJP-led MCDs and Lt Governor Najeeb Jung holding them responsible for the "mess".
Earlier in the day, Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay denounced Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his ministers for "remaining absent" from the city as it fights to halt the spread of chikungunya and dengue.
Attacking Jung, AAP's Delhi unit Convener Dilip Pandey said the Lt Governor "claims to be the government in Delhi", but is nowhere to be seen.
He said the AAP dispensation is "working round the clock" to treat the patients not only of the national capital, but also from neighbouring states.
Blaming the MCDs, Pandey alleged they have failed to spend even 1 per cent of funds allocated to them under the Swachch Bharat Mission.
He said the Delhi government has made arrangements for an additional 1000 beds meant for fever patients and 262 fever clinics have been set up. Besides,, 106 'Mohalla Clinics' and 26 Delhi government hospitals are also serving the patients.
The AAP government faced criticism over absence of its ministers from the national capital while there is an oubreak of dengue and chikungunya.
While Kejriwal left for Bengaluru today for undergoing a throat surgery, his deputy Manish Sisodia is in Finland to study the country's education system.
Satyendar Jain, who holds the Health portfolio, was touring poll-bound Goa. He returned to capital late afternoon. Labour Minister Gopal Rai is in Chhattisgarh and Environment Minister Imran Hussain is on Haj pilgrimage. Only Water minister Kapil Mishra is in the national capital.
"The Modi government itself has accepted that in the year 2015-16, the North MCD was allocated a sum of Rs 46.28 crore under Swachch Bharat Mission and the entire sum remains unspent. Similarly, Rs 31.63 crore were allocated to South MCD, of which it has failed to spend even one percent.
"Same is the story of funds allocated by the Delhi government to BJP-ruled MCD. The MCDs have failed to give utilisation certificates for the money allocated to them," Pandey claimed.
He added that instead of taking preventive measures like sanitation and fogging, the BJP leaders in the municipal bodies are fighting for credit and indulging in blame game.
Attacking the BJP and the media for raising the issue of absence of Jain from Delhi, AAP leader Ashutosh said, "TV harping on Minister in Goa.
