The Delhi government, in its Budget, today proposed to allocate Rs 1,500 crore for carrying out development works in the city's unauthorised colonies.
While presenting the 2018-19 Budget in the Delhi Assembly here, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia also announced Rs 100 crore for augmentation of infrastructure and development works in all markets of the city.
In Delhi, there are around Rs 1,600 unauthorised colonies where people play a vital role in deciding the fate of political parties during the elections.
Lauding the Budget after its tabling in the House, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said unauthorised colonies have been neglected by previous governments.
He said that since the Aam Aadmi Party has formed government in Delhi, Rs 2,500 crore has been spent on various development works in unauthorised colonies in the last three years, but for the next one year, Rs 1,500 crore has been allocated for the same.
"When we talk about development of Delhi, we see towards Lutyens' Delhi. When you get down from the Ring Road, you will get to know about reality of development...Our government will spend Rs 1,500 crore for development works in unauthorised colonies," Kejriwal told reporters here.
The deputy chief minister said that the allocation will provide basis amenities like construction of roads, drains, water supply, sewerage, sanitation and street lights.
