Health Minister A K Walia said the city must have a scientific pig slaughter house to address various health concerns.

He said pigs are carriers of the virus causing Japanese Encephalitis and nine cases of the disease were reported in Delhi last year.

Pigs are brought from neighbouring states by meat traders and there is a possibility of the pigs carrying the virus into Delhi, Walia said.

He requested DDA to allot a 10-acre plot for setting up of the slaughter house.

"The threat of spread of Japanese Encephalitis will continue to loom large over the city untill we set up a scientific slaughter house for pigs," he said.
