Delhi Health Minister A K Walia constituted a four-member panel under the chairmanship of Arun Kumar Agarwal, Dean of Maulana Azad Medical College to review the existing medical facilities and make necessary recommendations to improve the services.
Four patients died at the Intensive Care Unit of the Sushrut Trauma Centre in North Delhi yesterday allegedly due snapping of oxygen supply. Slamming the government, the BJP has demanded a judicial probe into the incident.
The decision to constitute the committee was taken at a meeting which Walia had with medical superintendents of all the Delhi government-run hospitals.
The four member committee has been asked to examine existing medical procedures all Delhi government hospitals and make recommendations for modernisation as well as strengthening of the existing system.
Walia said government will take necessary steps based on the status and requirements of each hospital.
The other members of the committee are D K Tempe, Professor and Head of Anaesthesia department in G B Pant Hospital, UC Verma, Director of Anaesthesia department in Lok Nayak hospital, A K Sethi, head of Anaesthesia department, GTB hospital.

The Committee has been told to visit each of the 37 Delhi government hospitals and submit a detailed report within a fortnight.
Walia said that the Committee has been directed to come out with a standard operating procedure (SOP) for all the hospitals. (More)
