Delhi govt collects more than Rs 2000 crore VAT in one month

Delhi government today said it has made a record collection of more than Rs 2,000 crore VAT within one month.

A statement issued by the Delhi government said that the Department of Trade and Taxes collected the amount in the month of January and felicitated its best performers for the feat.

"In the month of January, the department for the first time was able to collect more than Rs 2000 crore as VAT in a month. Before this, in December 2015, the department achieved very high growth of more than 20 per cent," it said.

In a function organised at the department's headquarters at ITO, prizes were awarded in eight categories to outstanding performers.
 

Felicitating the awardees, S S Yadav, Commissioner, Trade and Taxes, said, "The introduction of the awards has enthused the officers and staff of the Department to work with greater zeal to achieve the target set by the Government."

"With the combined efforts of the all officers and staff, the Department of Trade & Taxes has been able to achieve very good growth in VAT collection in the last 2 months," he said.

He further said that the department is making all possible efforts to facilitate business and promote ease of doing business in the city.
