Delhi Government has decided to disband the existing hospital management society functioning in government hospitals here after a large number of complaints of corruption against them.

The city government's move comes after the mission director of the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) directed that the Rogi Kalyan Samitis be disbanded. The Samitis were functioning under the NRHM

Health Minister Satyendra Jain said the decision is motivated by a large number of complaints of corruption against the Samitis.

"We received a lot of complaints regarding corruption in the Samitis. So, I decided to disband them," he said, adding he was still "considering its reconstitution".

The Samities, which acted as an interface between hospitals and people, were chaired by the area MLA and other members included hospital administrations and doctors alike.

According to the Health Department officials, there is a plan to initiate Jan Swasthya Samitis which will act as an interface between hospital administration and patients so that there is no "political interference."

"They will begin at dispensaries and later we may replicate them in hospitals," Jain said.
