A Delhi government school at the President's Estate was today declared as the capital's first Solar Powered Green School.

Dr Rajendra Prasad Sarvodaya Vidyalaya, where President Mukherjee held a joint class for the students on the eve of Teachers' Day, will generate the electricity required to function it on its own using solar power panels and green technologies.

President Pranab Mukherjee, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia attended the event which was organised at the Presidential Estate.

The school children performed programmes, street plays and showcased science and painting models on the occasion.

Kejriwal wished Mukherjee on his 80th birthday and said "our President is the role model for each and every child in the country as children love him."

Kejriwal said Dr Rajendra Prasad Sarvodaya Vidyalaya is Delhi government's first school which has been declared as Solar Powered Green School.

"The government vows to make all the schools that fall under the Delhi government as green schools. There is also a need to make each and every house in the capital solar powered," Kejriwal said.
