Delhi Govt seizes 5328 bottles of illicit liquor

Cracking the whip on illicit liquor traders, Delhi Government has seized 5328 bottles of illicit liquor from various parts of the national capital.

Several teams were constituted by the Excise Department which carried out raids across the city and registerd cases against seven persons found involved in bootlegging.

"The Excise Intelligence Bureau of Excise Department has seized 5328 bottles of illicit liquor which includes brands like Besto Whisky, Rasila Santra, McDowell Whisky, Impact Whisky, Asli Santra from various parts of the capital," said J B Singh, Excise Commissioner.

Singh said that the seized amount of liqour was non-duty paid and was being carried by the accused unauthorisedly.
 

During the raids, two persons hailing from Sonepat, Haryana were found carrying 360 bottles of Besto Whisky for sale in Haryna. Their vehicle was seized and a case was registered against them in Nand Nagri police station.

In another case, a resident of Badli Extension was arrested by Samaypur Badli police for allegedly carrying 360 bottles of Besto whisky for sale in Arunachal Pradesh and 2424 bottles of Asli Santra for sale in Haryana.

In other separate incidents, five more persons carrying liquor for sale in other places were arrested and vehicles used were confiscated.

Excise Department, during its earlier raids, had seized 20340 bottles of illicit liquor of different brands and cases were registered against the accused in different police stations of the city under Delhi Excise Act 2009.

Till now the department has seized a total 25668 bottles of illicit liquor in Delhi.

"Raids will continue to check the discrepancies and to find whether the provisions are followed properly or not. Stringent action will be taken against the violators," Singh said.
