Delhi govt sets up team for quality check of const projects

The Public Works Department of Delhi has set up a 10-member team of engineers for quality control and technical audit of the state government's ongoing construction projects.

The team -- 'Quality Assurance Unit' -- has been constituted on the direction of PWD minister Satyendra Jain.

The unit will check if the Delhi government projects have been made as per the norms laid down for quality control.

"The team's duty will be to ensure quality work and right technical inputs for the ongoing construction of government buildings, roads, flyover and works being done under MLAs Local Area Development scheme (including civil, electrical and technical works)," a senior official said.
 

According to the official, construction work sanctioned by MLAs under their local area development scheme and those being carried out by various civic agencies, including the three Municipal Corporations in Delhi, will also be covered under this quality and technical audit.

The unit, headed by a Superintending Engineer, will comprise of four executive engineers and as many assistant engineers, the official said.

"PWD minister has directed the Engineer-in-Chief to issue instructions for smooth functioning of this unit which will exercise quality and technical assurance checks on works being executed by state-level public works organisations," he said.

This unit will conduct suo motu checks and will also take cognisance of complaints from elected representatives and public.
