Ahead of assembly elections, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today said her government will consider extending the retirement age of teachers serving in Delhi government schools from the current 62 years to 65 years.

Dikshit said the cabinet will discuss the issue this week.

The Chief Minister made the remarks after demands were made that the retirement age of teachers serving in Delhi government schools should be raised from 62 to 65 years.

"Master Bijender Singh said that the age of retirement of teachers should be extended from 62 years to 65 year. We will discuss this issue in the cabinet next week and I believe because we have made up our mind that we will do it," she said while addressing a function here.

The retirement age of teachers in Delhi was raised from 60 to 62 years in 2006, subject to their fitness and vigilance clearance.
