Delhi govt to hike fund for lawyers' welfare: Sheila

Delhi government would soon increase its share in the corpus fund of Bar Council of Delhi so that various welfare schemes for lawyers can be initiated, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said today.

"We had contriburted Rs 1 crore to the corpus fund. I am sure that the time has come to take a review and increase the amount," Dikshit said speaking at a seminar on welfare of lawyers organised by the Bar Council of Delhi.

The seminar was inaugurated by President Pranab Mukherjee.

Dikshit described the lawyers as "agents of peace and order" in the society and said Delhi government would do its best to help them.
 

She said the city government has set up parking facility in all court complexes for lawyers including a multi-level automatic car parking at the Delhi High Court Complex for which the government had contributed more than Rs 200 crore.

"The government is in favour of an appropriate medical insurance sceme for the lawyers," she said asking the Bar Council to bring a proposal before her in this regard.
