The Delhi government has decided to set up a 'Punjab Chair' at Jawaharlal Nehru University to promote research works in the language.
Addressing a press conference, Delhi Culture and Languages Minister Kapil Mishra said the decision was taken to boost prominence of Punjabi languages in the national capital.
The minister said that it was a long pending demand to form such a body to promote Punjabi literature and language at JNU.

"We were in touch with university administration on the proposal for the last four to five years. Now, the decision has finally been taken," Mishra said.
He said that a panel will be formed to look after the 'Punjab Chair' besides promoting the research works in that language.
The government will annually give Rs 50 lakh to JNU once the university sets up this institution, he said.
