Delhi has least cases of pendency: CM

Addressing the Capital Foundation Silver Jubilee Awards ceremony, she said the addition of four new district courts hase contributed to expeditious and accessible justice for Delhiites.

In addition, she said, the Delhi Mediation Centre has played a vital role in resolving those cases which need not go to courts.

She assured the legal fraternity all help for delivery speedy and transparent justice and batted for the use of computers and digitalisation for ensuring swift justice.

Delivering a lecture on "The role of subordinate judiciary", Supreme Court judge Justice A K Patnaik said "the important factor is that subordinate courts should act impartially, with independence and integrity.

 

"The courts must possess these institutional values for masses to get justice quickly," he said while batting for appointment of more judges.

He said that judicial independence from the legislature and the executive was important and more release of funds and better infrastructure from the Centre can go a long way in strengthening the judiciary.

He said that it was easier to introduce technological and medical reforms but far difficult to accommodate socio-economic reforms.

The national capital is detached from the ground realities of other parts of the country, he said, adding that it is the subordinate judiciary that decides the rights and liabilities of all parties coming to the court according to the rule of law.

Stating that judicial functioning cannot be mechanised, Patnaik said that the justice delivery system is slow because it is carried out by a human beings and the application of human mind takes time.

More number of judges manning the court means quicker the disposal, Patnaik said.
